Human Ideologies

Various secular ideologies, in their different forms and colors, have emerged as prominent philosophical and intellectual systems in the modern world. These ideologies attempt to explain social, political, and economic phenomena based on incomplete observations, quasi-scientific experiments, and misleading generalizations.
These ideologies, however, lack solid foundations and are inherently unstable. One key reason for their failure to provide comprehensive solutions to complex human problems is their disregard for the spiritual and moral dimensions of human life. A human being is not merely a material entity that interacts with its environment; he is a being endowed with emotions, feelings, and values. Secular ideologies like Marxism and logical positivism focus solely on material facts, reducing ethics to mere social constructs. This disregard for moral dimensions has hindered these ideologies from providing effective solutions to value-based issues, as human beings cannot be separated from their spiritual values.
Secular ideologies strive to interpret phenomena from a purely material perspective, which leads to the exclusion of psychological, social, and cultural factors that influence human behavior. This excessive material analysis simplifies problems and complicates solutions, as the expected outcomes often fail to reflect the real complexities of society. Humans are indeed shaped by their environment but also influence it, and this complex interaction can only be understood through a holistic perspective.
Although secular ideologies share some principles and theories, they frequently conflict with each other. For instance, Marxism provides an economic analysis of class conflict, whereas liberal ideologies emphasize individual rights and freedom. This conflict results in a lack of consensus on appropriate solutions to social and political issues, leaving societies in a state of intellectual chaos.
Moreover, secular ideologies struggle to adapt to the rapid changes of the modern world, whether technological or social. These ideologies can no longer adequately interpret recent transformations and frequent upheavals, making them appear outdated and incapable of addressing contemporary challenges. Such challenges require intellectual flexibility and a comprehensive outlook that considers spiritual and human dimensions.
While it is true that secular ideologies may address some local issues, they have failed miserably in providing effective solutions to global problems like poverty, armed conflicts, and climate change. These issues require a comprehensive, global perspective, something secular ideologies have not achieved, as their proposed solutions fall short in addressing the multifaceted nature of these problems.
The failure of secular ideologies to acknowledge the importance of human philosophy and its role in shaping societies highlights a fundamental lack in critical thinking. Philosophy encourages the questioning of assumptions, while secular ideologies focus on fixed truths, limiting individuals’ capacity for innovation and change. A philosophical perspective that goes beyond materialism allows us to explore the deeper aspects of existence.
The primary cause of intellectual and philosophical chaos is that people’s knowledge does not rest on sound reasoning. Truth— as explained elsewhere— is what is guided by nature and commanded by divine revelation. If people had made the innate disposition with which Allah created them their measure, they would have been spared much evil and corruption. Many claim rationality in their ideologies, while others present counter-ideologies also claiming rationality.
The root of these contradictions lies in linking reason to habit, custom, and society, rather than linking it to inherent human nature.
The rational individual aligns his mind with his natural disposition, while the foolish one aligns his mind with customs and social norms. From this perspective, respecting human life is an act of sound reasoning, while taking a life is a revolt against reason. Despite this, some people are bewildered by my opposition to secular thought and behavior, while they themselves submit to it entirely. I find peace in the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet, where I find my true guidance, whereas in human authors’ works, I see weak arguments and limited intellect.
Although secular ideologies have made valuable contributions to understanding the world, their failure to address complex human issues highlights the need to search for alternative philosophical and moral systems that encompass spiritual and human dimensions. In a world facing increasing challenges, it is essential to adopt a broader perspective that transcends material boundaries and upholds ethical values and principles that form the core of humanity. A philosophy rooted in divine revelation and aligning reason with natural disposition is the true philosophy that will contribute to shaping more just and humane societies.
