Our Beloved Dr Akram has really proven his capabilities. I still remember when he departed to England… it was to serve spreading knowledge of this dīn. I knew that he would exert his best effort towards that goal. Māshā’Allāh, I continued to learn of his successes in this regard, and he became well-known in the university circles.
It has been Nadwah’s approach from the beginning… to combine secular education and religious studies. To set a high standard in providing strong Islamic knowledge, to foster the highest capabilities in the best Islamic books… but ALSO to understand the demands of the dunyā, and even more importantly, find solutions for them.
Alḥamdulillāh our dear Dr Akram has not only understood these concerns well, he has excelled in addressing them after his move to England. He has established a system… and an institute… to serve those who already have a secular education… and are interested in furthering their religious studies… and deepening their knowledge of the sources and references of our dīn. Alḥamdulillāh… the graduating students of this seven-year program serve as proof that his system works, and was absolutely needed.
It is not uncommon for a person to achieve greatness in the secular world OR the religious… but to be great in BOTH is difficult! Dr Akram persevered and built a system that enables people to reach depths in both.
Amazingly, although Dr Akram received his entire education in India, and had not lived in the West… he was able to move to the West… grasp the reality of the situation there… and flourish in his mission. These things are not possible with ordinary capabilities and ordinary aspirations. He has showed that he is extraordinary in both.
We pray that his commitment will yield excellent results and produce model students who will progress Islamic thought, and serve as examples for Muslims and non-Muslims alike. May Allāh accept from him and bless his efforts. We are grateful for the relationship that we have with Dr Akram. Because of this closeness, his success and performance bring us great joy.
To the students… “The path of knowledge is filled with striving and effort. The greater the effort, the stronger you will be in your capabilities. Secondly, a student on the path of knowledge always remains on it. Education never ends. Your knowledge can yield great results and accomplishments. Allah enabled you to complete this program. May He make your degree a means to your success… may He enable you to hold respect in your heart for what you received from this institute… may He make you a role model for others… may He protect you… and may He bless you. I congratulate you!”
These were the words spoken by the teacher of our teacher… may Allāh bless Him and preserve Him, and may Allah allow us to heed his words of wisdom.
At the end of his message, Mawlānā Rābiʻ said that for the students who are graduating, if they read the first ḥadīth of Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī to Dr Akram, he grants them ijāzah from himself.
