Al-Muallaqat, or ‘The Suspended Odes’, is one of the most famous collections of pre-Islamic poetry to date, with each of the 7 poems being held in high regard for its literary qualities. This topic is a renowned subject of study for all students of Arabic and the Islamic Sciences. From Imru’ al-Qays to Zuhayr ibn Abi Salma, these poets were immortalised for their achievements and their poems are still relevant today, being key to the study of grammar, rhetoric and the context of pre-Islamic Arabia.
Shaykh Akram will also teach a year-long course on the Science of Rhetoric, ‘Ilm al-Balaghah, at Al-Salam Institute. The study of Rhetoric is important for all students of Arabic and the Islamic Sciences who would like to take their Arabic to the next level. This science is key to a nuanced understanding of expression in the Arabic language, as well as how best to ascertain hidden depths and meanings in poetry and prose. This subject will be taught over 24 weeks, onsite, with recorded online access for students to re-watch later.

Limited spaces onsite.
