Children,s Drawing
Children,s Drawing

In my judgement, Muslims should not be presenting the Qur’an to children in a form designed to compete with modern secular books for children. It is more difficult for parents and teachers to hold the attention of children when the teaching material is not obviously entertaining. However, for the Qur’an, it is essential to make the extra effort. Parents, teachers and children all alike need to raise themselves and their quality of attention to the level of seriousness and importance of the message of the Qur’an. So teachers and parents should teach in very small amounts as small as necessary to hold the attention of the child. They should then give them relief, for example by encouraging them to write out the phrases that they have just studied. Also the teachers can improvise while teaching in order to liven up the lesson, and this could include entertaining drawing. But such drawing in my judgement should never take a fixed form which might inhabit the mind of the child and make a permanent association between the image and the Qur’anic text.
